The Organisation of Active Seniors in Society Inc. was formed to support a men’s shed and other activities in the Derwent Valley region, just outside of Hobart, Tasmania. A second attempt at starting up has now seen us located in a heritage listed building in New Norfolk.
Our location is part of what was once a hospital complex called Willow Court. The building, the old nurses quarters, and its surrounds is becoming a tourist attraction from an historical perspective and it is planned to have occasions where people will dress in period costume.
There is already on site a motel, antiques centre, a cafe, a blacksmith, and a number of other shops soon to be opened.. One of the shops has been ear-marked for OASIS for selling amongst other things products produced in the men’s shed.
We are aiming to develop this place into a shed where there is a diversity of people and talents. Although the core may well be seniors, many retired with a lot of time on their hands, we hope that it can be a place where shedders can come to and share their skills with others and have a cuppa and a chat as well.
Membership details are given here Membership, and here we have some items that are intended to give you a laugh or two. Visitors should always scan the “News and Events” scroll at the bottom of the page; there is always something new happening -just click on the item heading.
Please let the OASIS committee know how we can improve our facilities or this web site.
Happy shedding
